Getting My Act Together

As I mentioned a while ago, my life has been a bit topsy turvey. I am very happy to say that I'm taking control of things and that things are going well. I've never been very good at imposing order on the general chaos. Everything pretty much got done, but not necessarily efficiently or in the best time. My house was never tidy or organized. There was always the excuse of the kids and being busy, blah, blah, blah. Clutter was everywhere and I was always playing catch up. Recently, though, I have been tearing through the "stuff" that I've allowed the fill up the house. I have fallen in love with my To-Do lists. I make them and I get through them - for the most part. The sense of accomplishment every time I cross an item off is a real confidence boost.

What is also amazing to me is how much lighter I feel without so much stuff cluttering every room. I'm not done yet, but the difference is fantastic. As the house is cleared, my head is clearer, too. As my head is clearer I seem to just be able to be more organized. As I'm more organized I have more time to KNIT!!!! Yup. I have more time to knit, and more ability to concentrate on what I'm knitting. I've designed two cowls out of Juniper Moon Farm Sabine - I've finished one, and I'm still knitting the prototype of the other - and I'm working on a sweater, also in Sabine. Things are definitely getting done and it feels amazing.

Another thing that I've gotten much better about it being organized about cooking. It's amazing how a tidy kitchen and a little bit of planning can make it so much easier to end up with plenty of yummy food. I can honestly say that that pasta with sauce used to be a staple dinner around here. Now, it's the exception, not the rule. My kids have discovered the joy of pot roast and brisket, fajitas are greeted with cheers, looking through cook books for new dinner ideas has become a group activity. I'll start sharing my favorite recipes. Most of them are on line so lots of links!

  1. I've been writing more physical to-do lists and they have been helpful. Menu planning is another list I make regularly. This year I'm trying to working on being thoughtful about how much time and energy I will want to exert on different days and to stop trying to convince myself that I'll be more energetic than past experience has indicated. There's that one particular week when I seem to think it's a great time to buy a whole bunch of stuff that needs to be cut up, and then I end up having to spend time on the couch being pathetic while things rot.
That tidy kitchen (and dishes done) does make things seem a bit more possible :)
